Paddy farming has destroyed many farmers’ livelihoods in Punjab, say farmers from Mansa and Barnala districts. They speak of the prices the state had promised for crops and the low rates at which their harvest was bought. An elderly Gurjant Singh from Alisher Kalan village in Mansa says, “A farmer’s life is full of sadness.”
Listen to their voices in this video, recorded on November 29, 2018, when many farmers from Punjab travelled to Delhi for the Kisan Mukti March. Their demands included loan waivers, minimum support prices for crops, and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission reports.
