Birds of Meghalaya/Meghalaya ni Do’orang
FOCUS
Birds of Meghalaya / Meghalaya ni Do’orang is a English-Garo glossary of birds illustrated by Gladinia Pyrtuh. This book was published by Sauramandala Foundation, Meghalaya, as part of The Forgotten Folklore Project (TFFP) which brings to life 65 stories from communities in Meghalaya and other northeastern states of India. The books, developed in collaboration with local artists, aim to contribute to early childhood education and disseminate knowledge on local nature, culture, foods, garments, kitchens, and more.
The book brings together 10 birds of Meghalaya, highlighting their names in Garo along with their English common counterparts. Each entry carries an illustration by Gladinia Pyrtuh based on photographs taken by SC Horzak Zimik. The birds included range from the Maslengga (Common Kingfisher) and Sogin Kamal (Himalayan Griffon Vulture), to the Dopa Nokma (Racket-tailed Drongo).
The 15-page glossary is also available in English-Khasi and English-Pnar.
