Jaishinta Banda sits at her porch in Killabandar village, weaving fishing nets. The village borders the 16th century Vasai Fort north of Mumbai city. She is from a family of fish workers, and makes their nets herself. “It takes a month to make one,” she says. While Jaishinta’s husband and two sons go out on a fishing vessel, and her two daughters go to Mumbai for their jobs, she sits knitting the nets after she has finished all her household tasks.
