Background on Enron's Dabhol Power Project

Dabhol, a massive combined-cycle power plant in Maharashtra state was initiated in 1992 and took nine years to commence operation. The plant began production of 740 mega watts in Phase I and the Maharashtra state began purchasing the power under a purchase agreement. However, the state of Maharashtra stopped paying for Dabhol as of December 2000 bill of $22 million and sought cancellation of the power purchase agreement.

Later, the Dabhol Power Company ceased operation in Phase I and halted construction of phase II.

This report gives the background of Enron's Dabhol Power Project.
